ANN ARBOR, MI - Anyone walking along Liberty Street in Ann Arbor on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 8, might have been surprised to see Jamie Morris, a former running back for the University of Michigan football program, helping to sell newspapers on the street corner to benefit the homeless.
Morris was volunteering with a local nonprofit organization called Groundcover: News and Solutions from the Ground Up, helping to distribute the organization's monthly edition during International Street Paper Vendor Week, which runs Feb. 6-10 this year.
The publication, which began printing in Ann Arbor in 2010, exists to create opportunity and a voice for low-income residents while also taking action to end homelessness and poverty.
