The Michigan field hockey team’s path to the NCAA tournament final in Ann Arbor later this month almost ended before it began Friday afternoon, as the No. 3-seeded Wolverines needed a last-second goal to defeat Miami (Ohio), 3-2.
Michigan advances to the second round, where they’ll host Friday’s winner between Harvard and Louisville at 1 p.m. Sunday at Phyllis Ocker Field in Ann Arbor. The winner of that game advances to the national semifinals on Nov. 19, also set for Ann Arbor. (As is the national final on Nov. 21.)
The Wolverines trailed just 2:31 in, when the RedHawks’ Lexie Nugent scored her eighth goal of the season, then fell down 2-0 on Taylor Curran’s goal with 2:03 left in the first quarter.
