When John Beilein made his coaching debut in 1975 at Newfane High School in New York, he was so nervous, he told folks after the game that coaching probably wasn’t for him.
Turns out, he was mistaken.
On Wednesday, he agreed to a contract extension that will take him through his 46th year of coaching.
Beilein signed to stay Michigan’s basketball coach through at the least the 2020-21 season.
He had been signed through 2018-19.
“John is one of the most respected coaches in the country and revered people with the university community,” athletic director Jim Hackett said.
