It took just 11 seconds for the Wolverines to jump in front of Maryland on Saturday afternoon, claiming a lead they would never surrender. Led by impactful special teams play and red zone defense, Michigan built a commanding lead and cruised to a 38-7 victory.
Entering the contest with only two returns of 30 or more yards, those coming in U-M’s first two games, freshman receiver Giles Jackson opened the action taking the opening kick back 97 yards for a touchdown.
Following a third down sack by Josh Uche on the following possession, and a Maryland punt that netted just 26 yards after a Donovan Peoples-Jones 13-yard return, the Wolverines started out with great field position and a chance to extend their advantage.
