Don Brown's second season at Michigan wasn't two plays old and things were going off script.
Co-captain and starting outside linebacker Mike McCray was dealing with a pregame injury. And, suddenly, starting inside linebacker Devin Bush Jr. was facing an ejection over a possibly targeting call after the first defensive snap of the game.
"Holy moly," Brown recalled Thursday during an interview with 97.1-AM. "I was looking at it like 'woah, we could be down the starting MIKE and starting WILL, guys that have taken virtually every (practice) snap.' We started Devin Gil at the WILL position for Mike and Devin accredited himself extremely well in that first series, think he graded out almost perfect.
