Michigan defense tries to limit penalties, better understand targeting

As targeting penalties rose to an all-time high a year ago, the questions from coaches and players on just what constitutes an infraction within the rule seemed to follow along.

Through three games in 2018, this process continues for Michigan football.

The Wolverines will play the first half of their Big Ten opener against Nebraska on Saturday without preseason All-American linebacker Khaleke Hudson, who was flagged for a targeting penalty in the second half of U-M's 45-20 win over SMU.
