ANN ARBOR -- Chase Winovich had a bewildered look about him Saturday night, after Michigan watched Notre Dame score 21 first-half points on its highly regarded defense.
He claims he had no idea what happened. Defensive end Rashan Gary on Monday chalked it up to self-inflicted mistakes. The unit was flagged a total of six times in Michigan's 24-17 loss to Notre Dame.
But days later, after the Wolverines got another look at the film and returned to practice ahead of Saturday's home opener against Western Michigan (Noon, FS1), coaches and players remained mystified.
"I wish I knew," cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich said on Wednesday.
