Wink Martindale has seen a major shift in collegiate athletics during his first season as Michigan’s defensive coordinator. Martindale spent over 20 years in the NFL with his last college job before Michigan being with Western Kentucky in 2003. The main thing that’s changed since then is obvious — NIL (name, image, likeness).
“I didn’t even think about it,” Martindale said. “It’s like free agency.”
Well, Martindale’s thinking about NIL but says when recruits ask him about NIL he says he knows “nothing about it.” When asked how early money is brought up in the recruiting process Martindale said that’s a better question for position coaches and says he’s “like the closer.
