ANN ARBOR -- Don Brown defended his No. 1-ranked defense earlier this week, asking folks to focus on the positives as opposed to dwelling on the slow starts.
On Saturday, Michigan turned on the heat from the very get go, holding Maryland to just 220 yards of total offense in a 42-21 homecoming win at Michigan Stadium.
The 15th-ranked Wolverines allowed just 14 points defensively, limiting the visiting Terrapins to 11 first downs. Maryland punted the football six times and finished 5-of-13 on third-down conversions, despite not having to go up against all-Big Ten defensive end Rashan Gary.
