A month removed from spring practice, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is still planning on an open quarterback competition this fall.
Even though incumbent redshirt junior Wilton Speight is returning, he isn't being handed the job.
“Improvement can be made over the summer,” Harbaugh said Thursday, in an interview on WTKA-AM (1050). “It’ll be a fair competition starting July 31, the first day of practice. Throw the balls out there. It’s been my experience it takes 10-to-14 days to really get clear separation to find the guy that will be the best for us to be the quarterback who leads our team as the No.
