EVANSTON, Ill. -- It was a less-than-stellar outing, but Michigan snagged its first road win of the season on Saturday.
The 14th-ranked Wolverines scored 20 unanswered points, including a game-winning touchdown by Karan Higdon late in the fourth quarter, to upend upset-minded Northwestern, 20-17, at Ryan Field.
Higdon converted the go-ahead score with 4:06 remaining, capping an 11-play, 67-yard touchdown drive that shaved nearly six minutes off the clock. The senior running back led the way with a game-high 30 carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
But it wasn't without some concern. Penalties and mistakes plagued Michigan (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten) for most of the first half, allowing Northwestern to jump out to a 17-0 lead.
