Juwan Howard stayed up past his usual bedtime earlier this week.
On Tuesday — which was also his 50th birthday — Michigan basketball's coach watched as LeBron James drained a 21-foot fadeaway jumper late in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The two points, the 38,388th of his career, sent him past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA's career scoring leader.
Howard, who played with James for three seasons (2010-13) in Miami — a run which included two NBA championships (2012, 2013) — and coached on the Heat's staff in James' final season (2013-14), reflected on his friend's accomplishment shortly after his Michigan team had dispatched Nebraska, 93-72.
