During his postgame news conference Thursday night, after Michigan basketball was blown away by No. 25 Iowa in the first half and never recovered, associate head coach Phil Martelli questioned the team’s “emotional commitment” to the game.
Martelli praised shooting guard Eli Brooks for the critical leadership role he has assumed all season — the Wolverines would be lost without the fifth-year graduate student — but said the time had come for some of the followers to step forward into larger roles that would benefit U-M on and off the court.
