Michigan fans had long assumed that Spike Albrecht’s career as a Wolverine was over after his season ended with injury, and that became official Monday night as Jeff Goodman of ESPN reported that Albrecht announced he has been granted his release and will play his final year of eligibility as a grad transfer.
Albrecht leaving Michigan was the expected outcome, but it’s sad nonetheless. Since he started seeing bench minutes his freshman year and stole the show in the 2013 National Championship game against Louisville, he has been a fan favorite because of his scrappy play and personality.
