Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel and officials from the Big Ten reinstated men’s basketball coach Juwan Howard on Monday following a five-game suspension stemming from a postgame brawl with Wisconsin at the Kohl Center on Feb. 20.
Howard will return to the sidelines Thursday morning at the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis, where the eighth-seeded Wolverines are scheduled to face ninth-seeded Indiana. The winner of that game will face top-seeded Illinois in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Howard’s reinstatement after 14 days away from the program carried neither pomp nor circumstance. The U-M athletic department decided against any formal announcement of his return, but a team spokesman confirmed the decision to the Free Press on Monday afternoon.
