CORVALLIS, Ore. — Michigan created the perfect recipe for postseason success on Friday: dominant starting pitching, multiple home runs and solid defense.
Sophomore right-hander Karl Kauffmann shut out Creighton on six hits over 8 2/3 innings, three Wolverines hit home runs and they played errorless baseball in a 6-0 victory in their NCAA regional tournament opener at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Next, Michigan (42-18) will play either top-seeded Oregon State or Cincinnati at 10 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
The Wolverines are trying to advance to the super regionals for the first time since 2007 when they also played in Corvallis.
