Michigan athletic department reports new single-week high of COVID-19 cases

Michigan's athletic department reported a new single-week high for COVID-19 cases, with 26 positive test results between Oct. 17-23, the university announced Friday.

Of the positive results, 25 were from student-athletes and one was from a staff member.

1,576 total tests were administered between student-athletes and staff members this week.

In total, since the department began testing, there have been 13,734 total tests administered — 10,975 to student-athletes, 2,759 to staff members — with 131 positive tests (118 student-athletes, 13 staff members).

The increase in cases comes during the same week Washtenaw County issued a two-week stay-at-home order for undergraduate students due to a sharp uptick in cases at the university.
