Michigan and Michigan State seek some NCAA respect for downtrodden Big Ten

This is an opinion piece by MLive.com columnist David Mayo.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Respect on the basketball floor can be a difficult thing to find these days for the Big Ten Conference, as Jim Beilein knows.

That's how Michigan coach John Beilein was introduced to the masses who showed up for his team's open-to-public practice before this afternoon's NCAA Tournament opener, if you could call 100-or-so people masses. Or even just one mass. If there weren't actually 100 people, there were at least a few dozen. Perhaps even a handful of them noticed the error.

From the outside looking in, it seemed somewhat fitting, given the sorry state of Big Ten basketball this season.
