Brandon Johns and East Lansing had just put the finishing touches on Kalamazoo Central in a regional semifinal on Monday night at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek when Johns spotted a familiar face.
It was his kindergarten teacher, Ms. Guerra, who made the hour-long drive down I-69 to see one of her students from more than 10 years prior play in a basketball game.
Sure, Johns is the state’s top-ranked player, but that’s not why she was there.
