'Let's go after 900': Michigan cruises, giving John Beilein 800th victory

Ann Arbor — It was quite the opening night at Crisler Center.

Before Michigan tipped off the regular season against Norfolk State, the Wolverines commemorated last season’s success by raising the Final Four and Big Ten tournament title banners to the rafters.

Then No. 19-ranked Michigan kept the party going by handing coach John Beilein the 800th win of his 41-year college coaching career with a 63-44 beating of Norfolk State

Beilein, 65, is the sixth active coach in Division I men’s basketball to reach that mark, joining Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski (1,100 wins), Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim (926), West Virginia’s Bob Huggins (845), North Carolina’s Roy Williams (842) and Coastal Carolina’s Cliff Ellis (825).
