A federal judge has ordered the University of Michigan to send a letter to 300,000 of its alumni notifying them of lawsuits against the school related to former athletic department doctor Robert Anderson.
The letter is a follow-up to a mid-June letter sent to alumni from law firm WilmerHale, which is conducting an investigation of how U-M handled reports since the 1970s that Anderson, who was an athletic team doctor and for a time the head of the university's student health center, sexually assaulted students. Hundreds of students have alleged assaults by Anderson, who died in 2008.
