Michigan's shutdown corner is in the mix -- perhaps even the favorite -- for the award that goes to the best defensive back in college football.
Michigan cornerback Jourdan Lewis has been named one of the 16 finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, according to a release from U-M Athletics.
The Thorpe Award goes to the nation's top defensive back. Lewis is Michigan's first semifinalist since Leon Hall in 2006.
He has 16 pass breakups on the year, which is two shy of the season record at Michigan, which is held by Hall and Marlin Jackson, respectively.
