EAST LANSING - Michigan State interim president John Engler strongly disagrees with the $10,000 fine the Big Ten handed down to the university this week.
"It's absurd, it's just ridiculous," Engler said on WJR Radio Saturday morning before Michigan State's game against Purdue in East Lansing.
Prior to Michigan State's 21-7 loss to Michigan last week, there was an altercation between players during the Spartans' pregame walk. Michigan players were already on the field and didn't move, which led to shoving and words exchanged.
The Big Ten on Wednesday fined Michigan State $10,00 after it determined it "violated the policy when its football team walked across the field with linked arms and initiated contact with multiple members of Michigan's team who were legitimately on the field during pregame warmups.
