It was November 2007, one of John Beilein's first games as Michigan's head basketball coach. It was either against Radford, the season opener, or Brown, the second game. Beilein can't remember which one, and, really, it's not all that important.
What is important is what Beilein's son Andrew — then a senior in high school — said to Dad after one of those games as they walked out of Crisler.
"He says, 'Tell me why we came here again? There's more empty seats than there are people at this game,'" John Beilein recalled. "For a while, it was tough to explain.
