David Turnley didn't expect much when he sent Jim Harbaugh a note following Harbaugh’s return to Michigan in January 2015.
Turnley’s life was already accomplished as a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer for the Free Press in 1990. And he had spent time shooting some of the world’s most famous faces, working in war zones and various locales all over the world.
Yet, as a former linebacker who walked on at U-M for two weeks as a student, the now U-M professor and Ann Arbor resident was intrigued by Harbaugh. The feeling was mutual and, after their first meeting, they quickly collaborated on a photography project.
