Jim Harbaugh ‘amping up’ as season opener nears

STATELINE, Nev. – The airport must have lost his luggage. Jim Harbaugh wasn’t wearing his trademark loose-fitting khakis from Walmart, or even a belt, during a practice round for the American Century Championship on Thursday near Lake Tahoe.

But it was business as usual for the second-year Michigan football coach Friday morning for the opening round of the 54-hole tournament televised by NBC Sports. Wearing his customary tan khakis, belt and Michigan cap, Harbaugh participated in a threesome that featured former NFL quarterbacks Joe Theismann and Mark Rypien.

Admittedly, golf is the antithesis of Harbaugh’s personality. Chasing a white ball around one of the most scenic golf layouts in the world with his Wolverines’ opener against Hawaii six weeks away left him indifferent.
