Jake Butt named to Mackey Award watch list

The preseason watch lists for national awards haven’t turned their attention to too many Wolverines this year, but on Wednesday morning it was announced that Michigan junior Jake Butt made the cut for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end.

Butt was one of 33 players named to the list, including five from within the Big Ten. He was joined by Penn State’s Kyle Carter, Iowa’s Jake Duzey, Michigan State’s Josiah Price and Ohio State’s Nick Vannett within the conference.

Tearing his ACL in February of 2014, Butt was limited to some extent early last season, only starting five games total.
