Jake Butt becomes favorite target for Rudock, U-M

SALT LAKE CITY -- Nearly a month ago, as Michigan prepared to start training camp, coach Jim Harbaugh said Jake Butt was one of the best tight end prospects he had coached in college.

With a sterling resume of Stanford tight ends projecting to the NFL, that was a major statement.

Butt backed him up in Thursday’s 24-17 loss to Utah, making eight catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

It was the most catches by a Michigan tight end since Jay Riemersma had nine against Michigan State in 1995.

Only three games in the modern Michigan era have had a Wolverine with more, that one and two by College Football Hall of Famer Jim Mandich in 1969.
