ANN ARBOR -- Michigan's players and coaches wouldn't outright admit they were surprised by the schemes and plays Northwestern ran to start last Saturday's game. But the Wildcats, coming off a bye the previous week, did jump out to a 17-0 lead before Michigan settled in and scored the game's final 20 points.
Maryland will visit Michigan Stadium on Saturday having not played last week. Two of Michigan's other opponents earlier this season, Western Michigan and SMU, each had an extra day of preparation before playing the Wolverines.
"I've coached on teams where you played a game and you didn't run anything you ran the last two weeks," Michigan assistant coach Ed Warinner said Wednesday.
