Free Press sports writers discuss Michigan's 20-17 win over Northwestern, and wonder why Wolverines can't start well on the road, Sept. 29, 2018. Nick Baumgardner, Freep
EVANSTON, Ill. — On Sept. 1, in a hostile environment that wasn't half filled with its own fans, Michigan football's first-half road collapse led to a loss.
On Saturday at Northwestern, playing a team that entered the game with back-to-back home losses to Duke and Akron, the same scenario resulted in a come-from-behind 20-17 win.
Perhaps the Wolverines have grown since their season-opening setback at Notre Dame.
