Juwan Howard answers questions after Michigan's 70-50 win over Elon at Crisler Center, Nov. 15, 2019. Orion Sang, Detroit Free Press
Before the season began, Juwan Howard sat down and had a frank conversation with David DeJulius.
Howard, Michigan's first-year basketball coach, knew DeJulius was capable of starting. But for the good of the team, he needed the sophomore guard to come off the bench and embrace a role as the Wolverines' sixth man.
Before last season, the last time DeJulius hadn't been in the starting lineup was in fifth grade, when his father was his head coach and chose not to start him.
