One day before the start of the 2018 World Cup, the Spanish federation fired coach Julen Lopetegui after he agreed to take over as manager of Real Madrid once the World Cup ended.
Lopetegui was announced as the new coach of Real Madrid on Tuesday and according to Spain federation president Luis Rubiales, he did not keep the federation in the loop.
So, two days before Spain's opener against Portugal, the team is without a coach.
