So the distance runner and Olympic hopeful didn't know the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games had been postponed Monday due to the coronavirus outbreak until she received an interview request about how it affected her.
"I was like, ‘Hey, they postponed it, good,' ” Osika told the Free Press.
The possibility had been on her mind, given the scale of the COVID-19 pandemic. Osika, who ran at Michigan from 2012 to 2016, knew several races — including a 5K at Stanford and a road mile associated with the Boston Marathon — had been canceled as the virus continued its recent spread.
