OMAHA, Neb. – It began with an observation from Bill Cousins, the longtime NCAA press conference moderator, who watched Erik Bakich and Tim Corbin pose for the cameras behind the national championship trophy and said, “You guys must like each other.”
No, Bakich joked, he would not sit on Corbin’s lap.
Soon, the two head coaches who have long been friends — family, even — were answering questions about what it meant to sit next to each other on the stage at TD Ameritrade Park, separated by that trophy, one day before Michigan and Vanderbilt will play for it in the College World Series championship series.
