ANN ARBOR -- A 46-point blowout might not be the most conducive for improvement, but it allows a coach to empty his bench.

In Michigan's case, a 49-3 win over Western Michigan on Saturday allowed Jim Harbaugh and his staff to field 74 players. Among them were a pair of up-and-coming offensive linemen the Wolverines hope can mold into their next starting tackles.

Redshirt freshman James Hudson and true freshman Jalen Mayfield saw playing time along the line in the fourth quarter. Hudson took snaps at right tackle. Mayfield at left.

And Harbaugh liked what he saw.
