ANN ARBOR -- If you want signs that this Michigan defensive line could be very good in 2018, look no further than Greg Mattison's comments.
The long-tenured Michigan defensive line coach told reporters ahead of the Wolverines' season opener Saturday at Notre Dame (7:30 p.m., NBC) that he believes the team has as many as seven starters up front.
Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich on the ends, of course, and five different options for the two inside tackle positions.
"We may have the ability with our defensive line to tag themselves out," Mattison said Wednesday. "In other words, (at) some places you have to say to a person, 'That guy looks tired, we better put this guy in.
