When Grand Rapids Catholic Central offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield’s teammates and friends ask him about the recruiting process and how to get noticed by Big Ten teams, his answer is simple: Keep working hard, perform your best and good things will eventually happen.
After all, it’s the path that Mayfield, in the class of 2018, himself followed.
Mayfield didn’t see his recruitment take off until he received offers from Iowa, Michigan State and Minnesota between late January and early February, choosing to verbally commit to new head coach P.J Fleck and the Golden Gophers.
But Mayfield’s rise wasn’t over yet.
