WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Technically, Franz Wagner wasn't a five-star recruit.
The German prospect was highly touted, sure. But because he played in Europe, he didn't have as much exposure as those who played in the United States. He finished the recruiting cycle ranked as a four-star recruit, No. 114 overall according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Michigan basketball didn't care where Wagner was ranked, believing he was undervalued.
They have been validated since.
Saturday afternoon, Wagner put together the best game of his young career in Michigan's 71-63 win at Purdue.
