A former University of Michigan wrestler has filed the first lawsuit against the school, alleging it covered up sexual abuse by former doctor Robert Anderson.
The wrestler, who filed anonymously, was an undergraduate student who received an athletic scholarship to attend U-M from 1984 to 1989.
Anderson assaulted and abused the wrestler on at least 35 occasions, or 70 total acts of nonconsensual anal penetration and genital fondling, between 1984 and 1989 when the wrestler was between the ages of 17 and 22, the suit alleges.
"U-M is responsible for plaintiff’s damages stemming from Anderson’s sexual assaults on U-M’s campus, as U-M placed vulnerable student athletes, like plaintiff, in Anderson’s care despite knowing he was a sexual predator," the suit says.
