Former Michigan, Michigan State rowers team up to win gold for USA in Rio

On the final day of rowing in the 2016 Rio Olympics, the United States finally got a gold medal in the sport.

And the victory was aided by a former Wolverine and Spartan.

Ex-Michigan rower Amanda Elmore and ex-Michigan State rower Emily Regan were part of USA's women's eight team that won gold on Saturday morning in 6:01.49. Great Britain was second (6:03.98) and Romania was third (6:04.10).

It was the Olympic debut for both Elmore and Regan, who helped the United States continue its dominance in the event. The American women's eight team has won gold in three straight Olympics.
