Back in 2006, now-Illinois head coach Bret Bielema got his first taste of coaching on the sidelines at Michigan. In his first season at the helm for Wisconsin, he led the Badgers to a 12-1 season. His only loss? His trip to the Big House.
Though he lost that game, he gained something arguably more valuable long-term: he gained the advice and guidance of Michigan legend Lloyd Carr, who was in his 12th season coaching the Wolverines.
“Lloyd Carr, when I first came in the league when I was a head coach, he was the head coach of Michigan,” Bielema said.
