Once they can stand up again, Michigan’s women’s basketball team will get to raise a banner.
Though it took three overtimes, the Wolverines won the first postseason title in program history, an 89-79 WNIT title game victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall in Detroit.
Fittingly, U-M’s exhausted co-captain, senior Siera Thompson hit the final free throws and had the ball as the game ended, the final of her 55 minutes played and the last of her 13 points.
Michigan (28-9) was led by Katelynn Flaherty, who scored 20 of her 27 points after halftime.
