EAST LANSING, Mich. -- A five-goal first period helped the No. 8-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team take a commanding lead en route to a 9-2 over Michigan State on Friday night (Jan. 8) at Munn Ice Arena.
The margin of victory was the most by a Michigan team against Michigan State since an 8-1 win over the Spartans on Feb. 17, 1996.
Freshman forward Kyle Connor (2G, 3A) and junior forward JT Compher (2G, 3A) extended point streaks to seven games, linemate Tyler Motte (G, 2A) added three points and senior goaltender Steve Racine (24 saves) improved to 5-0-0 in his last six starts to lead Michigan.
