First-year coach Mel Pearson leads Michigan hockey back to NCAA Tournament

ANN ARBOR -- Mel Pearson is no stranger to coaching in the NCAA Tournament.

He was an assistant coach at Michigan for 21 NCAA Tournament appearances from 1991 to 2011 before taking over as the head coach at Michigan Tech the following season and leading the Huskies to tournament appearances in 2015 and 2017.

Pearson is back in the NCAA Tournament for the 24th time in his first season as Michigan's head coach, becoming the first coach in NCAA history to make consecutive tournament appearances with different programs.

The Wolverines (20-14-3), a No. 2 seed in the Northeast Region, play No.
