ANN ARBOR -- Athletic director Warde Manuel expected the tab for the Michigan football team's spring trip to France to be in the $800,000 to $900,000 range.
Turns out, it was a bit higher.
Costs for Michigan's six-day, seven-night trip totaled $1,007,268, according to a document obtained by MLive on Friday.
The university, responding to a Freedom of Information Act request filed on Aug. 3, broke down the trip costs into two categories:
- Trip expenses -- $979,641
- Security service costs -- $27,627
While a more detailed breakdown was not provided, the trip-expense total is believed to be roughly $200,000 more than what it cost Michigan to take a similar spring trip to Rome, Italy, last spring.
