James Hudson was granted his release from the Michigan football program in October.
Now, the converted offensive lineman is headed back to his home state.
Hudson will join the University of Cincinnati football team for the 2019 season, the Toledo, Ohio, native announced Saturday on social media.
In a note published on Twitter, Hudson thanked the Michigan coaching staff for the past two seasons, one that saw him redshirt his freshman year in 2017.
He'll have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out 2019.
"I will never forget the people that I met while there," Hudson wrote.
