The doctor cracked with emotion as she delivered the diagnosis.
Colton DelVerne, a 9-year-old boy, had a lethal brain tumor.
“The doctor held my hand and started crying,” Shannon DelVerne, 40, Colt’s mother, said. “She was like, ‘I don’t have anything to tell you but go on vacation because you might only have a month with your son.’”
Colt, the son of former Michigan kicker Jeff DelVerne, was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). It was the same disease that Chad Carr, the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr — Jeff's coach at U-M from 1996-2000 — had battled before dying in November 2015.
