ANN ARBOR -- Wearing a block 'M' baseball cap and navy blue zip-up sweatshirt, Ed Warinner made his first public appearance following his abrupt promotion last month.
The Michigan football team's new offensive line coach has taken a long, winding path to Ann Arbor, with previous stops in places most alums and fans would snicker at.
There was his two years as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in the mid-1980s. Two years on staff at Notre Dame earlier this decade. Then five years at Michigan's most hated rival, Ohio State, from 2012 to 2016.
"Coaching is what it is," Warinner, now 56, said Thursday night.
