Donnal’s play takes a big step forward for U-M

Mark Donnal didn’t need to look far for inspiration.

Coming from an athletic family, Michigan’s redshirt sophomore center always had a model a few steps ahead.

Andrew, his older brother, had a different frame — coming out of high school at 6-feet-7, 285 pounds — and gravitated toward football. Iowa embraced him, and he turned into an NFL player. He just completed his rookie year with the St. Louis Rams.

Coming out of Whitehouse, Ohio, Mark was 6-9, 210, and he opted for basketball and Michigan.

Andrew was naturally physical and aggressive. Mark was more of a finesse shooter despite his height, not much of a banger.
