D.J. Durkin to be named new Maryland head coach

Numerous sources, including both ESPN and Sports Illustrated, are reporting that Michigan defensive coordinator and linebackers coach D.J. Durkin will be hired as the new head coach of the Maryland football programs. He held the job at Michigan for one season, joining Jim Harbaugh’s staff after filling the same role at Florida.

The Terrapins dismissed Randy Edsall as head coach during the season, ironically the week after Durkin’s defense pitched a shutout in a 28-0 win for the Wolverines.

Reports surfaced last week that the Michigan defensive coordinator had interviewed for the job in College Park, but he upon meeting with the press, he was evasive in response to questions on that matter, repeatedly trying to turn the focus of discussion toward the upcoming game.
